Fourth place remains 3 points away
The focus for Valencia CF has turned to the Europa League semifinal against Arsenal, which takes place this Thursday night, but the team remain in the hunt for fourth place in LaLiga. A loss against SD Eibar on Matchday 35 appeared to have significantly hindered the chances of Marcelino’s men qualifying for the Champions League, but results later on Sunday mean the situation remains almost the same in the hotly contested battle.
The current incumbents of the fourth place spot, Getafe, lost to Real Sociedad at Anoeta, whilst Sevilla were stunned by relegation strugglers Girona at Montilivi. That means that Valencia CF are still three points off fourth, with three matchdays to go in 2018/19.
The club’s final three league games come against SD Huesca, Deportivo Alavés (at Mestalla) and Valladolid. They hold an advantage on goal average over both Getafe and Sevilla, which would work in their favour in the event of a tie break situation.
